I mentioned in my book ‘Reclaiming Feminine Wisdom’ that I had felt great for a while after surgery, but then I had a flare up as I had stopped with all of my practices that had helped eliminate symptoms of endo. One of the things I realised was that it was summer and I was using a brand of suncream that included ingredients that had been linked to endometriosis. Even whilst putting it on I kept thinking I needed to get another brand that was organic and non-nano, an uncoated zinc oxide suncream I knew would be a much better option.
Zinc oxide provides a physical barrier that sits on top of the skin and is a mineral that does not absorb. It can sometimes show a white film-like appearance on the skin, but this doesn’t bother me as I am only interested in my health and the environment.
It was frustrating that I couldn’t find this type of suncream in the shops and because I would need to use some for the day and had kept forgetting it, I just bought the options that were available. I had used the mainstream brands for a couple of months before the flare. I cannot prove that this is what caused it, but I will definitely not be using anything other than organic, non-nano, and uncoated zinc oxide suncream in the future. Luckily a detox and putting my routines back into practice reduced all the symptoms after a few weeks. The ingredients in some mainstream brands, such as oxybenzone can mimic estrogen in the body and cause hormone disruption. A big no for those of us with endo or hormonal imbalance already. It can also be toxic to the body. I was so frustrated at myself for not acting sooner and at the companies that use these chemicals in the first place. We must educate ourselves about what we put into our bodies!
The brand that I researched and seemed to be popular and loved by many people was the Badger brand. I have found this very effective. There are many organic brands that you can research. I include an affiliate link to the cream I use below:
