Learn how postnatal surgery and endometriosis led me on an unexpected journey full of synchronicity as I discovered inner wisdom and feminine paths to healing and empowerment. Aligning with menstrual cycle awareness teachers and the rising feminine voices throughout the world, I share my truth, wisdom and authenticity in the hope that other women will share and discover theirs. I offer healing modalities and ways to connect to the cyclic wisdom inherent in women’s bodies and show you how it can be used as a mindful practice. I delved into the feminine mysteries and questioned the effects of patriarchy on women in my own journey towards healing.
You will get no claims from me that I’m a miracle worker but I truly have found a holistic path to empower myself with endometriosis and felt I had to share my story in my book ‘Reclaiming Feminine Wisdom’. Simply because I had learnt so much from an emotional, spiritual and physical point of view about the disease. I love to merge the science and the healing arts. I needed more than the physical/nutritional aspects of supporting myself to eradicate pain (although this always plays a very important part) and it seemed the journey found me in the end.
I began to discover a power in the menstrual cycle that I had no idea about. I learnt about the shifting seasons of our cycles and the wisdom they hold for us. I found other women with endo who had success working with rather than against their menstrual cycle. If you have read my book ‘Reclaiming Feminine Wisdom’ you will know how these cyclical shifts and self-care practices made a difference to how I engaged with and understood my femininity on new levels.
Even before I set out on my journey towards healing I knew that I was going to need a full holistic approach. It seemed I stumbled into a treatment that I thought I was training in to help other women on a fertility journey. It turns out it was the start of a journey for me.
Real pain happened for me after I had had a retained placenta from the birth of my second child which resulted in emergency surgery two weeks later and then when my ‘period’ returned it was hell and hospital trips. Along with much misunderstanding from doctors and medical staff about the disease and its affects. I began to sense some serious collective shame from women regarding menstrual health and speaking up about their issues. I then investigated how patriarchy may have affected women’s bodies and the possibility of some lost wisdom and voices silenced. I could sense remnants of when women were medically diagnosed with hysteria and ‘it’s all in your head’.
The most difficult part to explain to others is that I had a hysterectomy after much success and enjoyment of working with the cycle. I went on an incredibly synchronistic journey that took me exactly 1 year from learning the cyclic wisdom to DECIDE to have the hysterectomy. The whole journey to this you can read about in my book. I was hardly experiencing any discomfort at the time, but it shifted something in my psyche that I felt it needed too.
I found out I had stage 4 endometriosis and my surgeon said ‘it was a bit of a mess in there’ I should have been experiencing more pain but I was loving what I was learning about myself and the modalities were working for me.
I then experienced a flare (I kept my ovaries) after around six months post hysterectomy, before this I had been feeling great. I realised that I had stopped using a number of the tools I’d developed and the flare-up was ignited from a perfect storm of a very stressful and emotional couple of weeks, bad nutrition and I believe too much suncream and dioxins!
I had also slipped back into a masculine/yang energy of continuous striving. This was a pattern that became very clear. I was able to use a number of tools to stop the descent and fear. It was fascinating watching it all play out with a deeper understanding and empowerment to manage it this time. This is why I decided to dedicate myself to sisters of endo and exposing truths surrounding women’s health.
I am currently at the time of writing pain free, not because I don’t have the odd flare or adhesion pain but because I am able to get on top of it so much faster than I could before.
As a reflexologist and massage therapist at the time of all this happening it has added to my understanding of just how important these complementary therapies are. It has also meant that I am able to guide and support women on their journeys. The spiritual/emotional parts of my journey have been the most enlightening.
My ‘Reclaiming Feminine Wisdom’ retreat days and online ‘Menstrual Magic’ package use a combination of what I’ve learned about cyclical wisdom, self-love and feminine healing practices.
Through what I’ve discovered about the female body from personal experience and with clients my journey has involved not giving our power away and trusting our own intuitive guidance, especially when it comes to a rite of passage like giving birth. Training as a hypnobirthing teacher and using my maternity reflexology and massage experience I am able to offer a powerful programme that leaves women feeling confident with their bodies and gives essential knowledge for giving birth in a medical setting.
Much love sister x
